And the trailtroll isnt. It’s engine has a bottom end knock, so its coming out.. eventually. There’s a lot to do to get that thing out! But I’ve got most of it done.
Unrelated to the trailtroll.. I have a 1969 VW Baja Bug now. It came with no engine, so I paid 800 for a ‘good’ engine (I live in the midsouth, which is for some reason a beetle/vw desert.. that was good price) that turned out to need to be 100% rebuilt. So.. i thought, why not
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
It’s now an 1800CC bored/stroked engine with 88mm thickwall cylinders (thicker than original) and a 74mm 4130 forged crank. Upgraded (significantly..) heads and camshaft. I slapped on a chinese clone pict34-3 carb to get it started and running, and used the original 1974 coil and distributor to see if it works...

I took a little fiddling about to get the electrical on the bugs body.. uh.. working well enough to start the motor.. buuut it runs! I tuned it SLIGHTLY and took it for it’s first spin today. The engine seems to like the middle-rpm range at the moment, probably needs a bit of timing and more carb tuning. I have a ‘close enough’ set of jets and a proper set of drillbits for it coming Monday to dial everything in. Up next is new hood latches, brake job/master cyl replacement, full electrical rebuild, giving those shifter bushings a once over, and then a suspension check/new tires! After that, the body might need some rust cleanup, and some sort of paint job. But, it drives as is, which is nice! Took it to get lunch and then to the parts store, a short drive, and a lot of thumbs up.

It does have a bit more lope than I expected from what I thought was a very mild cam. It could just be an adjustment and tuning issue.
